New Firearms Rules for NI
New legislation known as the Firearms Regulations 2019 will come into force in Northern Ireland on 12th December 2019. Changes are limited to a few very specific areas as follows:
• responsibility for secure storage arrangements in relation to certificate holders under the age of eighteen;
• details to be entered by firearms dealers into their register and new marking requirements for firearms and essential component parts; and
• the notification of possession of certain deactivated firearms and their transfer.
Department of Justice tell us that they will be writing to all register firearms dealers in NI to provide details of the new record keeping and marking requirements. PSNI Firearms Branch will also be writing to certificate holders under the age of eighteen years old to outline changes to the responsibility for storage requirements.
